This is an invitation to connect directly with the sun.
The video is the sun itself, imagery from NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory in five wavelengths of ultraviolet light. Scrubbing left to right reveals new layers, from sunspots on the solar surface to prominences extending outward in the corona.
The audio is the solar wind: more than six decades of hourly wind-speed measurements, played as one continuous tone. Each hour of the sun becomes one sample of sound. Dragging up and down will raise and lower the playback speed, modulating the low hum of solar spherical harmonics. Dragging left and right controls the cutoff frequency of a bandpass filter.
